FORMATIVE Assessment
The formative assessment gives you the opportunity to assess yourself, and it gives me the ability to monitor your progress. This formative assessment allows you to interact with the genre of Poetry in various ways. The survey contains different types of questions. It will have some questions about literary terms where you define or differentiate from devices. These simple questions will show you whether or not you have a good general knowledge for the back bone of Poetry. Additionally, some questions will simply have you interact with the idea of poetry. These questions help you garner ideas about how/why you feel a certain way, similar to how you would when you write an analysis on a text. Overall, this survey will warm you up for the summative assessment.

Summative assessment
Summative assessments prove to measure how well you were able to grasp the content that was taught. Specifically with these forms of assessments, you must gather the knowledge you have gained so far and use it to properly analyze any text. With the terms, testing your understanding of the definitions shows that you could describe the impact of the term and explain the components that are used with it. With knowing the definition, you can apply this to practice and use it to explain your claims about a specific text. This is why the vocabulary portion mixes well with the written portion. If you know the definitions of the terms and how they are used, this assessment gives you the opportunity to put that into application. Holistically, this assessment will demonstrate how well you are able to put all of your knowledge together and make claims concerning a text. Please use the following quizlet flashcards that I created to help you get comfortable using the terms involved in poetry.
